England and Wales · A separate route for victims

A decision made.
A question worth reviewing.

Victims’ Right to Review can apply to certain decisions not to prosecute or to stop a prosecution. Start with who made the decision, what it says and when you received it.

Who made the decision?

Police decision

Start with the relevant force.

The police force handles requests under its review scheme. Check the eligibility requirements and instructions in your letter.

Official police review information →

CPS decision

Check the CPS review route.

The CPS scheme covers qualifying final decisions. Some decisions are excluded; a review does not guarantee a prosecution or that proceedings can restart.

What will the assessment ask?

Who made the decision, when you received it, any deadline in the letter and whether you have already requested a review. A brief outline is enough to begin.

Do you need specialist support?

You can request an eligible review directly without paying this service. If you want help examining the decision or preparing your position, we can assess the specialist support to discuss.

Funding needs a separate check. Criminal defence legal aid does not automatically cover a victim’s review enquiry.
